Moussa Sissoko's Newcastle exit is on hold with Tottenham unlikely to meet Newcastle's £30m valuation, Sky sources understand.

The Magpies will accept five instalments of £6m to allow the France international to complete a move to White Hart Lane.

But it is understood Spurs are unlikely to pay such a high price, regardless of the proposed payment stages, and have now cooled their interest in the player.

Sissoko is in Paris awaiting developments after being given permission to leave the France national camp on Wednesday morning ahead of a friendly against Italy.

The 27-year-old has wanted to leave Newcastle all summer after starring in France's route to the Euro 2016 final.

Spurs are expected to complete the signings of winger Georges-Kevin N'Koudou and young goalkeeper Pau Lopez on Deadline Day, and have also been considering attacking-midfield players after missing out on Wilfried Zaha.

Sissoko told French website Foot Mercato after the European Championship that he wanted to join a team in the Champions League and described Spurs' rivals Arsenal as "beautiful".

Sissoko said: "I gave everything there [Newcastle] for three-and-a-half years. I hope that they will be smart enough to understand that, to continue my development, I need to keep playing at the highest level.

"As I want to stay in the France team, I could not stay in the Championship. There will be discussions. I hope they will go with my opinion. I want to leave.

"I want to continue my career in England, at a club that plays in the Champions League because I think this best fits my style of play."
