Tottenham duo Hueng-Min Son and Juan Foyth were both sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, as Spurs missed the chance to secure Champions League football

Tottenham were their own worst enemies against Bournemouth as their top-four hopes were hit - by getting two players sent off.

Needing a win to secure a Champions League spot for next season, Spurs' poor form continued in embarrassing style for Mauricio Pochettino, with his side losing two players to red cards en route to a 1-0 defeat at the Vitality Stadium, more than they had received in the rest of the league season combined.

Heung-Min Son was given an early bath for the first time since October 2014 after shoving Jefferson Lerma shortly before half-time, before a Spurs reshuffle at the break saw Juan Foyth introduced, only for him to follow Son down the tunnel less than three minutes later.

"It's a hard one to watch back," Bournemouth defender Simon Francis told Sky Sports after the game. "It doesn't get any better, that's for sure. It's knee high of Jack Simpson and I think if his leg is planted, it could be a lot worse.

"Two minutes after coming on, he overruns the ball and when you're lunging like that, I'm glad to see Jack came off without an injury because it's a bad challenge."

Sky Sports' Jamie Redknapp said he could not argue with Foyth's red card, but said of Son's: "The first one I'm uneasy with. I do think it's a red card in the current climate because you can never really push people.

"I don't like the way Lerma goes down if I'm totally honest, but I think it's a red card. It's a moment of madness from him. It's not a typical Son action, it's not what he does but it is a red card in my opinion.
