Tottenham will commemorate Bill Nicholson - their most influential manager of all time - by bathing White Hart Lane in white when they face Newcastle in the Premier League on Sunday.

To mark the 10th anniversary of his passing, the club want supporters to ‘Wear White For Bill’ and honour the man who commanded the most illustrious period in their history, which included the first League and Cup double of the 20th century by an English side in 1961.

During 16 years at the helm between 1958 and 1974, Nicholson led the ‘Lilywhites’ to 12 trophies, one of which saw them become the first British team ever to win a major European trophy - the Cup Winners Cup of 1963.

The Scarborough-born Yorkshireman, who made 314 appearances as a wing-half for Spurs between 1938 and 1955, also clinched three FA Cups, two League Cups, four Charity Shields and the 1972 UEFA Cup as manager.

He was part of the famous 'push and run' team under Arthur Rowe that won the league for Tottenham in 1951 and then became the longest-serving Spurs boss of all time, taking charge of 832 games and winning 408 of them.

In his memory, Tottenham have produced a special souvenir matchday programme that includes previously unseen photographs of his time at the club, as well as a free commemorative pin badge.

Tributes to the former manager will be held on the pitch while fans will also have the chance to sign a special tribute wall at the club’s megastore on the corner of Park Lane.
