Alan Pardew hopes Sunday's turnaround victory at Tottenham Hotspur will answer some of his critics among Newcastle United's fans.
Newcastle came from 1-0 down at White Hart Lane to win through Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Perez’s first goals in the Premier League.
Ameobi, along with Remy Cabella, had been sent on at half-time by Pardew to help turn the game and secure back-to-back successes in the top flight having only collected a first league victory of the season last weekend.
And Pardew, who has not always been popular with Newcastle fans since becoming a surprise appointment in 2010, thinks the result against Spurs can help silence his doubters.
He told Sky Sports: "At the moment, the Geordie nation does not really think I am good enough so hopefully that has ticked one box that I do know what I am doing.
The players showed they are fighting for the shirt. That is what our fans want to see
“I have been here for 701 games now so it is pleasing for me and for my team, because we do a lot stuff that we think is important for the team.
“But they [the players] have to carry it out. At the end of the day, you are as good as your players.
“We have got some belief in them and they showed they are fighting for the shirt. That is what our fans want to see.”
Newcastle are now up to 14th position in the Premier League, having previously been struggling in the relegation zone, and Pardew is in no doubt about the importance of beating Spurs.
He said: “I am so proud of them [the players]. They gave absolutely everything. There was one or two struggling at the end but it was a real team effort.”
