Oxford winger Marvin Johnson has joined Middlesbrough for a deal which could rise to £3m.

The 26-year-old winger joined the U's in a £650,000 deal from Motherwell last summer and scored six times in 51 appearances last season.

Johnson had played three times for Oxford during the current campaign and scored in the 4-3 defeat to Cheltenham in the Carabao Cup.

Birmingham had already expressed an interest in Johnson during the current transfer window and Hull have had a bid of around £1m for him turned down.

Oxford chairman Darryl Eales had previously told a fans' forum that it would take an "unbelievable offer" for the club to allow Johnson to leave the Kassam Stadium.
