Goalkeeper Vito Mannone has agreed a new two-year contact with Sunderland, keeping him at the Stadium of Light until 2018.

The Italian joined Sunderland from Arsenal in 2013 and has since gone on to make 69 appearances for the Wearsiders.

He played 19 times in the Premier League last season, keeping four clean sheets as Sam Allardyce's men successfully preserved their top-flight status.

Mannone earned hero status among Sunderland supporters in 2014 when he saved two penalties in a shoot-out at Old Trafford, sending the Black Cats to the Capital One Cup final.
