Premier League: Kevin Gallen baffled by Harry Redknapp's departure from QPR

Kevin Gallen has told Sky Sports News HQ that he believes there may be more to Harry Redknapp's resignation as QPR manager than meets the eye.

Redknapp tendered his resignation on Tuesday citing an imminent knee operation as the reason for his departure, but Gallen believes a lack of movement in the transfer window - and growing fan disenchantment - may have played its part.

Gallen said: "I am quite shocked really. Tony Fernandes gave Harry the dreaded vote of confidence a couple of weeks ago so I thought he would stay until the end of the season at least.

"He didn't look a happy man on Deadline Day, when no-one came into the club, no signings were made. His demeanour just seemed to say he was not happy, so I think there might be more to this than meets the eye.

"I feel the fans have turned a little bit against him now and when the fans turn against you, it is very difficult to get them back on side."

Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey have been placed in temporary charge of the team until further notice, a shrewd move by Fernandes, according to Gallen, who believes he will be keeping the hot-seat warm for Tim Sherwood.

He said: "On the staff, you have Glenn Hoddle, an ex-England manager, Kevin Bond and Joe Jordan - who also have a lot of experience - but Les Ferdinand has come in as Head of Operations. He is in charge of the football side at QPR so I'm not surprised that he has got the job.

"There has always been speculation that when Les got the job that Tim Sherwood would be coming in shortly after, so if I was a betting man I would place a bet on that.

"Les has such a cult status and I think it is a good move by the chairman as the club will be right up for it against Southampton on Saturday and the fans will be right behind the team. I think it is a caretaker role for Les and I think someone else will come in before the end of the season.

"We need to pick up points quickly so this is an ideal opportunity to pick up some points and start climbing the table. The club need to maybe take a different approach until the end of the season."
