QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has given a huge vote of confidence to caretaker manager Chris Ramsey and revealed he will be considered for the role on a permanent basis.

The club's former head of player development was promoted in the wake of Harry Redknapp's resignation and, on Friday night, it was confirmed he would keep the role until the end of the season.

Ramsey led the R’s to their first away win in the Premier League this season as he oversaw a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Sky sources understand Fernandes considered five candidates for the permanent role - including a "dream" target thought to be Real Madrid assistant boss Paul Clement - before settling on Ramsey in the short-term.

We found a great guy to manage us from next season, a dream manager, but actually we had a dream candidate right in front of us - Chris Ramsey.

Now Fernandes has taken to Twitter to commend Ramsey on the job he has done so far and suggested the 52-year-old can land the role on a permanent basis if he can impress during the remainder of the season.

“We found a great guy to manage us from next season, a dream manager, but actually we had a dream candidate right in front of us - Chris Ramsey,” Fernandes said.

“So we, the board, decided to give Chris a chance and he certainly has been a dream in such a short period. First away win. Happy players.

“He's modest, gets on with the job, and is organised, passionate and loyal.

“There are no guarantees in football. But Chris Ramsey has every chance to build a long term and huge managerial future at QPR.  We are lucky.”

Ramsey is being assisted by Kevin Bond and Kevin Hitchcock at QPR, while Les Ferdinand, recently made director of football at Loftus Road, will oversee the three coaches.

QPR’s next fixture is a vital away trip to Hull City on February 21, with the Tigers currently sitting one place above them in 16th position in the Premier League table.
