QPR hope to make a decision on their new manager in the next 'couple of days', according to sources at the club.
Talks with the original hot favourite - Tim Sherwood - appeared to have broken down over contract terms while Michael Laudrup, who was linked with the post in the last 24 hours, has said he is staying in the Middle East with Qatari champions Lekhwiya.
The former Swansea manager told Danish media: "I’m going nowhere, I'm on contract with Lekhwiya until 30 June, the team is No 1, we are in Champions League in Asia so I'm staying in Qatar - very pleased that my name is on the list in other clubs but I'm not leaving Qatar now.”
A top source at QPR told Sky Sports News HQ: "Discussions are still on-going regarding the best way forward. There is no definitive update but we expect to make a statement in the next couple of days."
Real Madrid assistant manager Paul Clement and Brentford's Mark Warburton have been linked with the vacancy created by Harry Redknapp's resignation last week.
The club now have a 10-day break following their first away win of the season at Sunderland on Tuesday under the stewardship of interim manager Chris Ramsey; they travel to Hull City on 21 February.
