Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has avoided a ban after his one-finger salute towards Hertha Berlin supporters.

Ancelotti reacted angrily in the wake of the 1-1 draw at the weekend, which saw Bayern snatch a late point, and said afterwards he had done so because he had been spat at by rival fans.

The Italian was asked to explain his version of events by the German Football Association (DFB) on Monday before any charges were levied against him.

But any proceedings have ended after Ancelotti voluntarily decided to make a 5,000 euro (£4,250) donation to the DFB foundation.

A DFB statement read: "We regard Carlo Ancelotti's gesture in response to being spat at as an understandable emotional reaction.

"The DFB panel has accepted this position and will cease its inquiry. However, as an apology for his gesture Carlo Ancelotti will make a donation of 5,000 Euros to the DFB Foundation."

Hertha fans were enraged after Robert Lewandowski's 96th-minute equaliser at Berlin's Olympic Stadium snatched a point for Bayern, leaving them eight points clear in the Bundesliga.
