Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted he made a rude gesture to Hertha Berlin fans after claiming they spat at him during Saturday's Bundesliga match.

The former Chelsea boss showed his middle finger towards the home fans following a late 1-1 draw.

"Yes, I made the gesture after being spat at," Bayern's coach told German broadcaster ARD.

The German FA has asked Carlo Ancelotti to explain his version of events before deciding to charge him with misconduct.

Ancelotti will now provide the DfB with a statement.

Hertha fans were enraged after Robert Lewandowski's 96th-minute equaliser at Berlin's Olympic Stadium snatched a point for Bayern to leave them eight points clear in the Bundesliga, with the gesture coming as Ancelotti walked towards the tunnel.

According to German magazine Kicker, the German FA (DFB) are poised to investigate both Ancelotti and Hertha's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, who kicked a ball at Bayern's Xabi Alonso which Manuel Neuer described as "not fair play".

Hertha's coach Pal Dardai later branded the six minutes of added time a 'Bayern's bonus' and tempers frayed on the pitch after Lewandowski's goal.

"We always fight until the end," said Lewandowski. "It wasn't my best goal and was my last ball contact of the game - you can't get later than that."

Lewandowski's goal came later than the five minutes of added time the fourth official had previously indicated and Hertha's goalscorer Vedad Ibisevic - who gave the hosts a first-half lead - was not happy.

He said: "Why did there have to be five minutes of added time and then two minutes extra? Where did that come from? That only happens to Bayern."
