Eintracht Frankfurt have appointed Niko Kovac as their new coach.
The former Croatia manager, who replaces the sacked Armin Veh, has signed a deal until the end of the season with an agreement for a further year if Frankfurt avoid demotion.
They currently occupy the relegation play-off berth in the Bundesliga, three points clear of automatic relegation with nine games of the season remaining.
"It has got to be Niko Kovac's aim now to focus the team's strength on avoiding relegation," said Frankfurt chairman Heribert Bruchhagen. "We are convinced that he will succeed in doing this."
Kovac, who represented Hertha Berlin, Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich during his playing career, previously worked for Red Bull Salzburg's youth team before coaching Croatia's U21s and then leading the senior Croatia team to the 2014 World Cup.
He was sacked by Croatia last September after a goalless draw with Azerbaijan and a 2-0 defeat by Norway saw them almost miss out on qualification for Euro 2016.
His first game in charge of Frankfurt comes at Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.
