Huddersfield head coach David Wagner felt his side were not good enough defensively in their Premier League defeat to Watford.

David Wagner said Huddersfield were not good enough defensively as their wait for a first Premier League win of the season continued.

The Terriers lost 3-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday, a defeat which saw Wagner's side slump to the bottom of the Premier League table on goal difference.

The visitors came close to scoring in the first half with long-range strikes from Chris Lowe and Philip Billing well-saved by Hornets 'keeper Ben Foster, but they were ultimately condemned to their seventh league defeat this season. And, speaking after the game, Wagner felt his side made too many mistakes at the back.

"In general, defensively we didn't look good enough or compact enough," the Town boss told Sky Sports.

"In our offensive game we had some good situations, but we lost the ball more often and too easily and Watford are a threat on transition. If you don't bring them under pressure then it's difficult and this is what happened today.

"I've said this whole time that we've improved consistently. We had some unlucky moments as well, but I'm able to say we were not good enough performance-wise and this was the case today. We have to be focused in the performances."

With Huddersfield now without a Premier League win since April, Wagner has challenged his players to improve their concentration levels ahead of their clash against Fulham - live on Monday Night Football - on November 5.

He added: "We have to perform to collect points like we have done today. Defensively it's difficult to get a clean sheet, and it's difficult to get a result, so this is why it makes sense that we have to be focused better on the performance and do better than we've done today.

"They tried and they worked. They really were on it today but we have to be honest that this was defensively not our level and so we have to make a further step in the right direction."
