FC Dallas moved six points clear at the top of Major League Soccer's Western Conference with a 2-0 defeat of Vancouver Whitecaps.
Kellyn Acosta and Maximiliano Urruti were on target for the hosts in the space of three second-half minutes to strengthen the Texas team's position in the table.
Third-placed LA Galaxy could only manage a 1-1 draw at Seattle Sounders, with Cristian Roldan putting the home side ahead before Jelle van Damme replied 13 minutes from time.
Jacob Peterson's 50th-minute goal was enough to give Sporting Kansas City victory over Portland Timbers, while Joao Plata and Javier Damian Morales gave Real Salt Lake a 2-1 win at Philadelphia Union - who led through Roland Alberg's penalty just before the break.
Alex scored just before half-time for Houston Dynamo - but Chris Wondolowski's goal earned San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 draw.
Bradley Wright-Phillips got a late equaliser for New York Red Bulls but a 2-2 draw at Chicago Fire means they trail Eastern Conference pacesetters New York City by four points.
The New York side led through Matt Polster's own goal, and although David Accam levelled and Polster netted at the right end to turn things around by half-time, Wright-Phillips' 90th-minute effort earned the visitors a draw.
Montreal Impact overcame the dismissal of striker Didier Drogba to earn a 1-1 draw at DC United. The hosts had led through Patrick Mullins' first-half goal - but Hernan Bernardello levelled in the 86th minute, four minutes after former Chelsea striker Drogba had seen red.
Toronto FC moved up to third in the Eastern Conference with a 3-0 defeat of Columbus Crew, courtesy of goals from Tsubasa Endoh, Sebastian Giovinco and substitute Jozy Altidore.
Second-half goals from Cyle Larin and Kevin Molino (2) enabled Orlando City to come from behind and defeat New England Revolution, who had led through Kei Kamara's 19th minute goal.
