Football intermediary Barry Silkman says the transfer window has the potential to “cause a breakdown” to those attempting to push through any last minute deals.

Clubs in England have until 6pm on Tuesday to complete any transfers before the close of the summer transfer window, while teams in Europe have until midnight on Monday.

Silkman, who this summer worked on the deal to bring Italy international defender Angelo Ogbonna to West Ham, insists the stress caused by attempting to secure a late deal could have serious consequences for the intermediaries involved.

"To the wrong person it can cause them to have a breakdown," Silkman told Sky Sports News HQ

"It can be incredibly stressful especially if you're doing a deal and it's starting to go wrong. You try to find a way to rectify it. Sometimes you'll spend eight hours a day on one deal and it doesn't happen.

"I've actually spent months on a deal and it has fallen down. They are the stressful deals, the ones that look like they're about to collapse or do collapse."

To the wrong person, it can cause them to have a breakdown.

Silkman also says the structure of the transfer window means any potential late deal is a gamble for clubs and players.

"Agents start calling you asking you to help on a deal, players call saying they are not happy and need to get out and managers and chairman are asking if you have a certain type of player. It really becomes a lottery," he added.

"I don't know who invented this transfer window, but whoever it was they need to try and reverse it because it was working before. It use to go up to the third Saturday in March and now it has become panic stations.

"Clubs are panicking because it is such a short period of time to do a deal. If you're going to sell a player, you need to bring in someone to replace him. Transfer fees and salaries also get escalated."
