Oldham 0-0 AFC Wimbledon: Sides in stalemate at Boundary Park
Wednesday 22 November 2017 00:37, UK
Wimbledon continued their upturn in fortunes with a desperately hard-fought goalless draw at Oldham.
The Dons had their backs to the wall for almost the entire 90 minutes but a determined rearguard action saw them deny their in-form hosts.
Oldham wasted a good early chance as Eoin Doyle pulled his shot wide of the target from Gevaro Nepomuceno's pass.
Lyle Taylor fired over for Wimbledon before home striker Craig Davies found the net with a rebound, only to be ruled offside.
Oldham seized total control, with Doyle, Davies and Cameron Dummigan all going close as the visiting defence creaked under pressure.
Anthony Gerrard's volley was saved by Dons keeper George Long, who also made a smart block with his legs after Doyle found space 12 yards from goal.
A brilliant last-ditch tackle by Wimbledon captain Barry Fuller kept the scoresheet blank when Oldham substitute Aaron Holloway looked set to find an unguarded net.
Jack Byrne drilled wide in the 80th minute as Oldham's frustration grew, but their final opening saw Doyle head straight at Long.
