Roma retained the Coppa Italia with a 2-1 victory over Internazionale at the Stadio Olympico on Saturday. Philippe Mexes and Simone Perrotta scored as Roma exacted revenge over Inter, who could only respond with just under half-an-hour remaining through Pele. Having been pipped to the Serie A title by Inter, Roma were clearly intent on keeping hold of the knock-out trophy they won last season. However, they were forced to wait until the 35th minute for an opener as French defender Mexes glided unmarked into the area to smack in a David Pizarro corner at the near post. After the interval Roma doubled their advantage as Italy midfielder Perrotta poked in after a one-two with Montenegro forward Mirko Vucinic on 53 minutes. Inter's Portuguese midfielder Pele, on as a substitute, pulled a goal back just before the hour with a remarkable long-range shot.
