The Latics shaded proceedings during the opening period and held a 1-0 advantage at the interval as a result of Andy Liddell's 24th minute opener. However, the Hatters were level inside two minutes of the re-start as Paul Turnbull restored parity. Peter Thompson then handed the home side the lead on 68 minutes, before Michael Raynes secured the points with a third eight minutes from time. Oldham miss out on the opportunity to go top of the League One table while Stockport move to the fringes of the play-offs on the back of a five-match unbeaten run.
