Ally McCoist's men had leaked goals during a 3-3 draw with Stenhousemuir at the weekend, but the Scottish League One leaders stood firm as Jon Daly's late strike secured a hard-fought win.
The Gers opened the scoring after just four minutes when Nicky Law's neat return pass allowed Lee Wallace to fire home, but Stranraer swept up the pitch and Steven Bell's bobbling effort was well held by Cammy Bell.
Steven Smith sent a fierce effort over the bar as Stranraer's defensive strife continued and Andrew Stirling failed to ruffle Rangers with a tumble in the box, earning a booking for his efforts.
Scott Robertson tried to raise the home side and a low drive brought a superb save from Bell, but the Light Blues almost ended the half on a high, with Daly's looping effort testing David Mitchell.
Daly was again denied by Mitchell after the break, his header forcing the keeper into a fine save, but Stranraer were starting to threaten and Bell flashed the ball across the box.
David McKenna then skipped past Bilel Mohsni before his cross was gathered at the second attempt by Gers keeper Bell, but Daly (89) delivered the win, nipping the ball away from Mitchell and rolling into an empty net.
