Jack Smith fired home a penalty for his first goal of the season to secure Swindon all three points and their first clean sheet of the campaign as they beat Oldham 2-0. Defender Smith sent goalkeeper Mark Crossley the wrong way from the spot in first-half injury-time after Lee Hughes had handled a Jon-Paul McGovern cross. Swindon had taken the lead in the 25th minute against the run of play with Sean Morrison's first goal for the club. Top-scorer Simon Cox cleverly threaded the ball through to the centre-back and he made no mistake from 15 yards as he lashed the ball into the bottom-left-hand corner of the net. Hughes was the biggest threat for Oldham, but they have now only won one game in the last seven and it is easy to see why. Hughes lashed the ball over the bar from 12 yards out after 40 minutes, but his side failed to threaten otherwise.
