Alves, Juan, Fabiano and Kaka on target in big win

Brazil edged a step closer to qualifying for the 2010 World Cup finals after a comprehensive 4-0 win away to Uruguay. The five-time winners moved on to 24 points in the South American standings after claiming a first win in Uruguay for 33 years. Uruguay enjoyed the better of the first half yet found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break following goals from defensive duo Dani Alves and Juan. The breakthrough arrived after Uruguay keeper Sebastian Viera made a complete hash of Alves' shot from long range. Viera was beaten again just before half-time when, after saving Juan's initial header, he was beaten to the ball by the defender after Elano played in a cross to the near post. Sebastian Eguren and Alvaro Pereira both had good chances for Uruguay in the first half before Luis Fabiano hammered home Brazil's third goal early in the second period. Fabiano was then sent off after picking up a second yellow card for diving before Kaka converted from the penalty spot after he had been felled in the area. Uruguay also finished the game with 10 men after Maximiliano Pereira was sent off late on for a reckless challenge on Ramires.
