Injury-hit Owls extend Tony McMahon's loan spell until November

Sheffield Wednesday have extended Tony McMahon's loan from Middlesbrough until 15th November. The 22-year-old right-back, who joined following Richard Hinds' broken leg, has now seen his stay expanded for the maximum period under the emergency loan rules. Hinds faces a lengthy lay-off after fracturing his left leg against Wolves in August, and with Frank Simek also sidelined since the summer with an ankle ligament injury, the Owls have found themselves short at the back. McMahon has already played four matches for the Owls and will look to build on that in the next couple of months. He is likely to start against Ipswich on Saturday alongside Tommy Spurr and Peter Gilbert, and he could make as many as 11 more Championship appearances for Wednesday, including in the Sheffield derby on 19th October. Manager Brian Laws told the club's official website: "We have agreed with Middlesbrough that Tony McMahon's loan will be extended which is great news. "He has settled in really well and it is a positive move for us and allows me to make sure that when Frank Simek is around us he is not going to be forced into a situation where he is forced into action." McMahon's loan will be subject to a 24-hour recall from Middlesbrough.
