Crouch hits a brace in comfortable victory

Peter Crouch scored twice as Portsmouth inflicted a 5-0 friendly defeat on Nigerian champions Kano Pillars at the Abuja Stadium. John Utaka, Ben Sahar and Kanu were the other scorers as Pompey eased to a comfortable win. Utaka opened the scoring from close range on 11 minutes after rounding Pillars goalkeeper Theophilius Afelo. And Ben Sahar then doubled the advantage as he too skipped past Afelo as Pompey took control. Before half-time Pompey had their third as Kanu tapped in after Papa Bouba Diop had headed down a Utaka corner. Manager Harry Redknapp then made nine changes at the interval with Crouch and Jermain Defoe resuming their striking partnership. And the former was soon on target as he knocked in a Niko Kranjcar cross before volleying in Martin Cranie's centre to seal a comfortable victory.
