Highlights of the Carabao Cup fourth-round match between Bournemouth and Aston Villa

Bournemouth recorded a fifth consecutive win across all competitions to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 home win over Aston Villa.

Despite making eight changes, the in-form Cherries produced another exciting display to follow up wins against AC Milan and Manchester United to maintain their momentum under new boss Marco Rose.

Another tough test awaits the south-coast side after they were drawn away to 10-time League Cup winners Liverpool, with the quarter-final at Anfield taking place in the week commencing December 14.

Bournemouth and Villa produced an entertaining fourth-round clash at the Vitality Stadium as both sides had a combined 36 shots, with Amine Adli, Lewis Cook and Alvaro Rodriguez scoring the home side's goals.

Villa's first defeat in eight games was labelled a "terrible showing" by ex-Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd on Soccer Special, who criticised their "poor defensive display" after boss Unai Emery made nine changes from Saturday's impressive win over Man City.

Bournemouth immediately picked up where they left off after Sunday's emphatic 3-0 victory at Manchester United as Adli struck a seventh-minute opener from Julio Soler's cross.

Both sides traded chances in an end-to-end game as Villa summer signing Leon Goretzka missed a free header in first-half stoppage time.

And the ex-Bayern Munich midfielder was punished for his wastefulness as Bournemouth doubled their lead just six minutes into the second half.

A mistake from Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot allowed Cook's delivery to creep in at his near post.

Another impressive Cherries performance saw Rose's side reach the Carabao Cup last-eight for the first time since the 2018/19 season.

    Rose: We are relentless

Bournemouth boss Marco Rose speaking to Sky Sports:

"Clean sheet and three goals again - I could get used to it, but it's hard work. It was a nice game to watch from both sides, and we are happy that we won.

"We had eight changes today, and everyone played on a really good level. We are relentless, so it's the attitude and the effort. It showed we have competition, quality and that everyone is ready.

On quest to win club's first silverware: "That's what we are working for: to create special moments. We had some special moments in the last couple of weeks, but in the end, if we have something to put up in the air, then it's much more special."

On different goal scorers: "It's good. We are unpredictable in this stuff. For us, it's about increasing the confidence. It's now about recovering, and don't talk about what's happened and the past, and we need to go for more wins in the league as well and our next challenge is Leeds."

    Emery: We weren't clinical

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery speaking to Sky Sports:

"They played a very good match. We played a good match as well, but the first 20 minutes we didn't start with the intensity needed, but we were progressing and getting better, and we had clear chances to draw the match in the first half.

"In the first half, we believed in our possibility to come back, but the first 10 minutes [of the second half] was very important, and they started with the intensity they usually play, and we conceded the second goal and it was more difficult.

"But we created chances to score. We weren't clinical. The third goal finished the match.

"We played the idea we set out on so I can't tell nothing to the players, they tried so we move on."
