Willy Sagnol's fine start to life as Bordeaux manager continued with a resounding 4-1 victory over ambitious Monaco at the Stade Chaban-Delmas.

The former France defender - still only 37 - guided Les Girondins to an opening-weekend win at Montpellier and watched his side take a share of the Ligue 1 lead after Monaco fell apart in the second half of action on Sunday night.

Dimitar Berbatov had given last year's runners-up the lead just before the break with a diving header but Diego Rolan levelled shortly after the restart.

Emiliano Sala fired Bordeaux ahead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute and, only four minutes later Rolan grabbed his second.

Monaco's humiliation was complete when Wahbi Khazri scored a 75th-minute penalty.

Les Rouges et Blancs started brightly with Jeremy Toulalan releasing Berbatov down the right. The former Manchester United striker twisted his body before driving a low shot at Cedric Carrasso.

Danijel Subasic had has palms stung as Khazri whipped in a curling free-kick shortly after the half-hour mark but it was Monaco who broke the deadlock.

After Valere Germain picked up Joao Moutinho's ball from a corner, he picked out Berbatov at the far post and the Bulgarian dipped his head to divert the pass into the net.

Monaco were feeling good heading into the interval but they would be left shell-shocked by the events of the second half.

Two minutes after the restart Julien Faubert streaked past Lucas Ocampos to find Rolan and the Uruguayan cut his shot past the stranded Sibasic from close range.

Bordeaux were handed the opportunity to take the lead when Aymen Abdennour fouled Khazri on the hour mark. Subasic dived to his left, but he could not deny penalty-taker Sala his first Ligue 1 goal.

Monaco were in disarray and in the 65th minute they went 3-1 down as Gregory Sertic's free-kick met Rolan at the near post for an easy header.

The visitors looked devoid of hope or ideas by that point and there was still time for them to suffer further embarrassment.

Subasic earned a yellow card for fouling Khazri and dived to the wrong side once again as the Corsican midfielder picked out the bottom corner from the spot to round off a night to forget for Monaco.
