Burnley 1-2 Wolves: Fer Lopez on target as Clarets' winless run at Turf Moor extends to 21 league games
Report and free match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship match between Burnley and Wolves at Turf Moor on Friday; Jamie Vardy scores first goal since returning to English football - but Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa score to ensure Clarets' winless home run goes on
Friday 16 October 2026 23:04, UK
Burnley's run without a home league win will continue beyond the one-year mark after the Clarets were beaten 2-1 by Wolves at Turf Moor.
On October 18, it will be 12 months to the day since they beat Leeds 2-0 in the Premier League.
Since then, they have lost 11 games and drawn the other 10. It is the longest run without a home win across England's top four tiers.

Jamie Vardy's first English football goal since returning last month put Nicky Hayen's side ahead, but defensive errors allowed Fer Lopez and Tawanda Chirewa to turn the game around, securing Wolves' first win in three and lifting them to sixth.
In an interview with Sky Sports earlier this week, Vardy had been asked if this was his final season as a professional. "We'll have to wait until the summer and let my legs tell my head what they think!" he said.
On Friday night, Vardy proved his legs still have plenty left in them.
The 39-year-old found the net with his second shot of the game, scoring his first goal in English football since May 18, 2025, when he netted his 200th and final goal for Leicester.
But his strike was not enough to send Burnley into half-time ahead. Kyle Walker gifted possession away just outside his own penalty area, and Wolves were quick to punish the costly error.
Sean Neave took over, squaring the ball for Lopez to fire home via the inside of the left-hand post.
Burnley lost their grip on the game after the break and fell behind with 18 minutes remaining. Igor's dreadful touch gifted Chirewa the opportunity to strike, and although his effort was met by Gregoire Coudert's gloves, the ball looped over the goalkeeper and under the crossbar.
Burnley offered little in response and were met with a chorus of boos at the final whistle, as their fifth league defeat of the season was confirmed.
The key moments from Turf Moor
- 4: CHANCE! Largie Ramazani tries to pick out Jamie Vardy for the first time, but an excellent Nasser Djiga tackle halts the cross.
- 7: OVER! Jacob Bruun Larsen drops the ball back to Igor, whose drive dips inches over the crossbar.
- 10: BIG SAVE! Vardy's first shot is kept out by a strong left arm from Jose Sa.
- 20: GOAL! Bruun Larsen plays a lovely ball through for Vardy, who doesn't even look up as he sweeps the ball home.
- 39: GOAL! Against the run of play, Wolves level as Kyle Walker cheaply gives away possession, allowing Sean Neave to square for Fer Lopez to level.
- 52: SAVE! Fer Lopez curls a free-kick around the wall and towards the near post, where Gregoire Coudert is on hand to push it around the post.
- 72: GOAL! Just 21 seconds after coming onto the pitch, Tawanda Chirewa puts Wolves in front for the first time with his first senior club goal.
Hayen: It's difficult to make these mistakes and win
Burnley's Nicky Hayen speaking to Sky Sports:
"A difficult defeat. The first half was actually really good in terms of the organisation. They didn't find a solution, we scored a really good goal and had quite good opportunities.
"Then we give two goals away. You can talk about match plans and tactics, but if we concede two goals like this, by individual mistakes, it's difficult to win games. That's, unfortunately, the reality again.
"They apologised in the dressing room and I accepted it because no one does it on purpose, but it doesn't help us, that's for sure."
On the record at Turf Moor: "We can't talk about the past, but everyone will repeat it. It's normal. We just have to change the mindset because it will change one day."
Peixoto: Mentality was key
Wolves' Cesar Peixoto speaking to Sky Sports:
"I'm happy with the performance. I think we deserved to win. We struggled with the press in the first 30 minutes, but after that we managed the game well and created plenty of chances.
"The difference today was our mentality. This was a victory for the whole group and the entire team, especially as almost every player has featured in our last three games.
"It's an important win, but it's only three points."
