Burton Albion secured League One safety with a tense 1-1 draw against fellow relegation-strugglers Exeter.

Albion's unlikely goal hero was defender Jasper Moon, who scored his first Brewers goal on his 74th appearance for the club on the hour mark.

The Grecians had to throw caution to the wind with just two games to go to save their season and took the game to their hosts.

After a nervy start from both sides, it was Exeter who grabbed the lead when former Grecians defender Alex Hartridge mistimed a header back to his keeper and Ilmari Niskanen nipped in to slot home.

Danny Andrew fired wide as Exeter sought a second, but Albion also pushed for an equaliser, with Jack Bycroft making an excellent save to deny Andy Cannon and then pulling off a double save to deny Charlie Webster and Jake Beesley from the rebound.

Albion built up some early second-half pressure and were rewarded when Moon rose superbly to head home an inviting cross from his skipper Udoka Godwin-Malife.

Albion then survived a tense last half hour as Exeter go into the last day needing to beat Bradford at home and for results elsewhere to go their way in their pursuit of survival.
