Manchester City need only a three-goal win in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Burton, live on Sky Sports, to make history.

Leading 9-0 from the first leg a fortnight ago, the holders have the chance to set a new record for the biggest aggregate winning margin in League Cup history, which currently stands at 11 goals.

Progress to next month's final is set to be a formality for Pep Guardiola's side but the Spaniard has said he will not tolerate any sloppiness from his players.

"We start the game with 9-0, so that's an unusual situation, but the approach is to improve every single game," the City boss said.

"The last game (was) not perfect in understanding the way to attack. It was difficult for many reasons. It depends on the way we defend, how we attack more fluently. That's what I want to see tomorrow."

For Burton manager Nigel Clough, restricting City more than they did in the first leg at the Etihad is his primary objective.

"We were all a bit shell-shocked and numb after the first leg - I don't think we will ever get over it," he said. "There wasn't a lot we could do to stop Manchester City, there was a feeling of powerlessness.

"The gulf between the two clubs is absolutely massive but we've got to try to enjoy it, try to get some pride back and try and win the game."

Team news

Scott Fraser and Jamie Allen are doubts for Burton. Fraser is nursing a knee injury following the League One draw at Doncaster at the weekend, while fellow midfielder Allen has been playing despite an ankle problem in recent weeks.

New signings Josh Clarke and Colin Daniel definitely miss out. Clarke, on loan from Brentford, is cup-tied while Daniel is ineligible because he has signed for Burton since the first leg.

Benjamin Mendy could be on the bench for City at the Pirelli Stadium. The French left-back has been out since November following knee surgery but has been training for the past week and is nearing a return.

Guardiola is set rotate his squad but has confirmed playmaker Kevin De Bruyne will be among the senior players to feature. Goalkeeper Aro Muric and midfielder Phil Foden are set to come in. Captain Vincent Kompany remains on the injury list.

Burton will have to score early won't they! Don't forget, it is phenomenal being in the league they are and getting through this far - look at the other three teams in it; Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City. It's a big trophy, there's always big teams in the final and they've done unbelievably well.

They've got a bigger game on Saturday than this, which is a shame, but they've done great. It's another game against one of the best club teams in football, so relish it. They're not going to play them too many times in their careers..
