Charlton Athletic 1-1 Bristol City: Scott Twine's penalty ensures Nathan Jones' Addicks extend their winless run to six games
Report and free match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship match between Charlton Athletic and Bristol City at The Valley on Saturday; Scott Twine's penalty cancelled out Karlan Grant's opener as the points were shared in south London
Saturday 10 October 2026 15:33, UK
Bristol City goalkeeper Sam Tickle pulled off two big saves in the second half to extend Charlton's winless run in the Championship to six matches after a 1-1 draw at The Valley.
The Addicks are still unbeaten in SE7 this season but were left to rue not taking a couple of huge opportunities.
Charlton took the lead through Karlan Grant's second goal of the campaign in the eighth minute which was wiped out before the interval by Scott Twine.

Grant showed a deft touch to bring Tyreece Campbell's left-wing cross under control with his first touch before dispatching a left-footed finish past Tickle.
Referee Tom Reeves ruled that Arthur Okonkwo did not foul Yu Hirakawa as City's right winger looked to punish a weak header back by Josh Edwards. If it had been deemed a free-kick then the Wrexham loanee would have been at serious risk of a red card.
Charlton's high-tempo start faded quickly and there were warning signs of a City comeback.
Dom Ballard headed over a cross by Brian De Keersmaecker from 10 yards out before City restored parity in the 27th minute.
Conor Coventry produced a clear late tackle on Ballard inside the penalty area and Twine showed absolutely no nerves from the spot as he opted for placement - not power - to slot home his third goal of the season.
Twine went close to adding to his tally from a free-kick awarded after he was fouled by Oliver Skipp. His 30-yard effort forced Okonkwo to turn around his right post for a corner.
Twine drove wide in a packed penalty area at the start of the second half after Charlton struggled to clear a free-kick by Rio Cardines.
The Addicks switched from 4-2-3-1 to 5-3-2 soon after - introducing Kayne Ramsay and Ivan Mesik for Josh Edwards and Micah Mbick - and they finally enjoyed greater composure on the ball as they produced a spell of pressure around the hour mark.
Tickle produced a superb reaction save to parry from Campbell in the 77th minute, with the Jamaican international only able to send a second attempt over the crossbar. Tickle had spilled Miles Leaburn's low delivery from the right to present the initial chance to Charlton's top scorer but instantly redeemed himself.
Charlton had one final chance to go back ahead as the contest ticked over into added time.
Cameron Pring pulled Billy Koumetio over on the edge of the box but substitute Harvey Knibbs' full-blooded strike was tipped over by Tickle.
The managers
Charlton's Nathan Jones:
"I'm really disappointed with their goal because it is someone rushing out and dangling their leg.
"It is the second time he has done that. He has to be better with that, because he is a defensive midfield player.
"It is poor defending. We ask them to do the basics. First of all we don't head the corner, then no-one goes to Twine, then he lays one off and two don't go in and really defend the box. He makes one movement, goes between two people and one dangles their leg - it's a tiny gap.
"I'm a bit disappointed because we have worked on a load of stuff in the last two weeks. We started really well, scored, looked fluid but then didn't really go on. We stopped passing the ball well, we were deep and passive. That was the frustration.
"If we keep a clean sheet then we win the game today, and we probably win it by more because they would have had to go gung-ho and push."
Bristol City's Michael Skubala:
"From my view it looked like the keeper came out and fouled him (Hirakawa) outside the box, when Yu has tried to hook it over the top to get on the end of it.
"If the contact is there then it should be a red card, because it is outside the box. If it is inside then it is yellow because it is double jeopardy.
"I don't know why it wasn't given. The only thing I can think of is that there was not enough contact - but that's all I can think of.
"It was a proper battling performance from both teams - not a lot in it. That is normal when you come to The Valley, you get tight and hard-fought games. They didn't do enough to win it and I'm not sure we did enough to win it.
"It was a proper Championship boxing match. We started slower than them and then we got into the game and had some good moments in the first half. We started the second half very well, got on top of it, and they had to change to a five. Then the game became a little more direct and we had to weather that.
"It was a slugging performance but if you can't win it then you don't lose it."
