Charlton v Rochdale preview

Charlton hope to welcome back defender Patrick Bauer for their midweek clash with Rochdale, but midfielder Billy Clarke will miss out.

Bauer and Clarke were surprise omissions from the matchday squad for the weekend draw with MK Dons, although the Addicks are hoping the former can shake off a groin injury.

Clarke, however, is set to be sidelined for a couple of weeks with a calf problem he sustained in last month's win over AFC Wimbledon. Tariqe Fosu is a doubt with a quad issue he picked up on Saturday, while Harry Lennon and Lewis Page, both owing to groin injuries, remain long-term absentees.

Keith Hill could make changes after Rochdale dropped into the relegation zone following their defeat at Oldham over the weekend. A late brace from Eoin Doyle saw Dale drop into the bottom four, so Hill may opt to bring in fresh faces at both ends of the pitch.

Strikers Joe Bunney, Matthew Gillam and Steven Davies were all introduced from the bench on Saturday and will be pushing for starting berths. Keith Keane remains sidelined as the midfielder continues his recovery from surgery.

Opta stats

After winning their first three fixtures in the Football League against Rochdale without conceding a single goal, The Addicks have tasted victory in just two of the other seven league occasions in which they've come up against the Dale (D3 L2) without keeping a single clean sheet.

In their five previous league visits to Charlton, Rochdale have netted just three goals and have never bagged more than one in a single game. However, one goal was enough last season, when they ran out 1-0 winners at the Valley.
