Wayne Rooney's double helped DC United secure an MLS play-off spot with a 3-1 home win over NYCFC on Sunday night.
The win was DC's 12th win in 19 games since Rooney joined the club, having won just two of their previous 14.
Rooney's 11th goal of the season came after just eight minutes, finishing simply from six yards out, before Rooney's hold-up play allowed Luciano Acosta to curl home a stunner (24).
Rooney grabbed DC's third and his second with a penalty (74), before David Villa pulled one back with a fine effort off the inside of the post (78).
Rooney missed a chance after just 40 seconds, heading wide at the far post, but he soon made up for it with a simple close-range finish on eight minutes following Luciano Acosta's superb dribble on the left flank.
Rooney then turned provider midway through the half, holding up the ball well outside the box, before the ball fell to Acosta to finish brilliantly into the top corner from 20 yards.
The former Manchester United man then got his ninth goal in six games with 16 minutes remaining, slotting a penalty into the bottom corner after Alexander Ring had handled.
Villa finally made his mark on the game shortly after, firing into the bottom corner from an angle after Rooney had sloppily given the ball away on halfway, but DC held on to claim an unlikely play-off spot.
