Deportivo La Coruna put five points between themselves and the La Liga relegation zone after Celso Borges' penalty in time added-on rescued a 1-1 draw at home to Real Betis on Wednesday.

Cristiano Piccini looked to have gifted the visitors all three points in the league match with 20 minutes remaining at the Riazor, taking control of an overhit corner before lashing in off the far post, via a deflection from a Deportivo defender.

But the home side were given a penalty in the dying moments when German Pezzella was deemed to have elbowed Borges in an aerial challenge in the area, and the Costa Rican midfielder slotted down the middle to ensure the spoils were shared.
