Bury are now two points off the leaders Lincoln after away win
Saturday 16 February 2019 19:28, UK
Bury continued their excellent run of form as they made it 11 matches unbeaten in all competitions with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Exeter.
Exeter enjoyed plenty of possession throughout the game but struggled to create chances at the Bury goal, apart from Ryan Bowman's early effort.
The visitors went close after 20 minutes when Jay O'Shea's dangerous cross was turned goalwards by Nicky Maynard, but his effort flew over the crossbar.
Exeter hit back with a prolonged spell of pressure and came close to opening the scoring when Bowman headed Lee Holmes' cross goalwards but he was denied by a brilliant Joe Murphy save.
Scott Wharton headed wide from eight yards on the stroke of half-time for Bury. However, the deadlock was broken in the 65th minute as a low cross from Nicky Adams was bundled in from close range by Maynard.
Maynard almost made it 2-0 after going through on goal but Christy Pym stood up well to make the save.
The Grecians did have one chance to equalise but substitute Donovan Wilson dragged his shot wide from 20 yards as Bury closed the gap on Sky Bet League Two leaders Lincoln to two points.
