Kurtis Guthrie scored twice to earn Stevenage a 2-0 win at Grimsby - their first in four matches.
An encouraging start from the Mariners brought about chances for Luke Hendrie and Jake Hessenthaler, who both drew fine saves out of goalkeeper Paul Farman.
Guthrie then scored the opener at the other end, racing onto a threaded pass from Ilias Chair before lifting the ball over goalkeeper James McKeown and into the net.
Grimsby pushed and probed for a quick-fire equaliser, but within five minutes of the restart Guthrie doubled Stevenage's lead as he headed into the corner after meeting a Chair cross.
A left-footed curler from Charles Vernam was inches away from handing Grimsby a lifeline, but there ultimately proved to be no way back.
