Hearts vs Celtic preview: Scottish League Cup semi-final
Friday 26 October 2018 14:31, UK
Kieran Tierney says Celtic have the strength in depth to cope with their current injury crisis as the holders prepare for Sunday afternoon's Scottish League Cup semi-final with Heart of Midlothian.
Celtic head to Murrayfield on the back of a 2-0 defeat at RB Leipzig in the Europa League on Thursday, a game that saw Brendan Rodgers' side pick up yet more injuries.
Jozo Simunovic and Cristian Gamboa both picked up knocks at the Red Bull Arena and may now be added to a list of players with problems which includes Scott Brown, Leigh Griffiths, Kristoffer Ajer, Youssouf Mulumbu and Tom Rogic.
However, Tierney - who captained the Scottish Premiership champions in midweek - says Celtic just have to get on with it.
"We have a few injuries but so have Hearts, they have had a couple of injuries as well," says the Scotland international defender.
"In football, you need to deal with it. We have a big squad, a squad of quality and we have depth in every single position."
Meanwhile, Hearts manager Craig Levein is prepared to take a chance with Peter Haring's fitness for Sunday's clash with Celtic.
The Austrian midfielder took part in training at Murrayfield on Friday morning after missing two matches with a muscle strain, which is linked to a hernia problem that will require surgery at some stage.
"He did a little bit of training today (Friday)," Levein said. "We will see how he is tomorrow. I'm hopeful.
"I've explained he's got a hernia and there could be a weakness come Sunday, we might have to take him off early in the match. But I think it's worth taking a chance, he is such an important player."
Team news
Celtic will be without suspended defender Dedryck Boyata, however, James Forrest comes back from his one-game European ban.
However, Rodgers maybe without the likes of Simunovic and Gamboa due to injury, joining the likes of Brown, Griffiths, Ajer, Mulumbu and Rogic on the sidelines.
As for Hearts, Levein is still waiting on Haring's fitness as the midfielder continues his recovery from a muscle problem.
