Huddersfield overcame a poor first half to end Doncaster's winning start to the League One season with a late 2-0 home victory.

The visitors had by far the better of the first period against a scruffy Huddersfield side, who spent long periods struggling to play out of their own third.

George Broadbent was practically handed an open goal from 25 yards out after taking control of Terriers goalkeeper Owen Goodman's mis-hit pass, but curled his shot wide.

But the game was still goalless at the break, thanks largely to Huddersfield defender Josh Feeney's sliding block to deny Billy Sharp, while Leo Castledine put in a last-ditch tackle on Joe Sbarra, just as he looked set to score on the counter-attack from a Terriers corner.

The home side got better control of the game after the break and substitute Ben Wiles opened the scoring after 78 minutes off a brilliant disguised pass from Marcus Harness.

Huddersfield killed the game off from the penalty spot six minutes later as Joe Taylor fired the ball down the middle after having his shirt pulled by Connor O'Riordan.
