Highlights of the Carabao first round match between Leeds United and Port Vale

Debutant Samu Saiz scored a hat-trick as Leeds strolled into the second round of the Carabao Cup after a 4-1 win over Port Vale at Elland Road.

Saiz gave Leeds the lead on 12 minutes, before Michael Tonge equalised for the visitors on 36 minutes from eight yards.

The hosts took the game beyond Port Vale in the second half, as Saiz completed his hat-trick with two goals in the space of three minutes, while Caleb Ekuban scored on his debut to make it 4-1.

The second-round draw will take place on Thursday evening at around 10pm, live on Sky Sports News.

Manager Thomas Christiansen handed debuts to defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Ekuban, plus midfielders Saiz and Mateus Klich, making nine changes in total.

Leeds took a deserved 13th-minute lead when Stuart Dallas' cross came back off a post and Saiz smashed home the rebound.

Saiz and Klich were prominent as Leeds bossed the opening half an hour, but with nothing else to show for their promising build-up the home side were made to pay in the 37th minute.

Samuel Saiz could not have started life at Elland Road any better as he scored a sublime hat-trick on his debut during Leeds' 4-1 win over Port Vale

Leeds continued to dominate possession in the second period but had to be patient before finding the decisive breakthrough in the 61st minute.

Following more neat approach play, Ronaldo Vieira slid the ball through into the area for Saiz, who skipped round Port Vale's substitute goalkeeper Sam Hornby and deftly finished.

Two minutes later Saiz completed his hat-trick, ramming home an emphatic finish after being set-up by Ekuban, who then steered in Leeds' fourth in the 83rd minute after Ezgjan Alioski's brilliant counter-attack.

Vale defender Gunning was sent off in the closing stages after his cynical foul on Alioski earned him a second yellow card.
