Macclesfield Town will host Bolton in the third round of the FA Cup after defeating Chelmsford 1-0 in Wednesday's second-round replay.

Defender Carl Tremarco grabbed the only goal of the game midway through the first half at Moss Rose to seal progression for the hosts, and Macc were rarely troubled. The home side came close on three minutes when Chelmsford right-back Aiden Palmer was forced to clear an eight-yard Nat Brown half-volley off the line. Cliff Akurang responded immediately, firing inches over the bar from 10 yards before Macc broke the deadlock on 26 minutes when Colin Daniel split the defence with a neat pass to full-back Tremarco, whose firm shot burst through the hands of Stuart Searle. Daniel was again the provider in the 39th minute but this time Searle held onto George Donnelly's drive. The hosts nearly extended their lead moments after the break but Tony Diagne toe poked wide from 10 yards. The Clarets had their first attempt on target in the 57th minute but Akurang's glancing header was easily claimed by Jose Veiga. Donnelly then hit the side-netting for the home side from a narrow angle. Macc were denied what appeared to be a valid second when Matt Hamshaw was flagged for offside, but in the end the disallowed strike did not matter.
