Sheffield United have signed Leicester midfielder Dean Hammond on loan.

Hammond is eligible to play against Fleetwood on Tuesday night and will be with the Blades until January.

He will link up for a second time with manager Nigel Adkins, who worked closely with Hammond at Southampton.

The 32-year-old played 12 times for the Foxes last season but has been restricted to a solitary Capital One Cup appearance since Claudio Ranieri's arrival.

Adkins told United's official website: "Dean is a fantastic professional, he was my captain at Southampton when we won promotion to the Championship and Premiership and he has enjoyed success with Brighton and Leicester.

"I cannot speak highly enough of him as a player and a person, he sets high standards both on and off the pitch and after waiting for the right person, we are delighted that we can bring Dean into this football club."
