Sky sources understand Premier League champions Leicester are to earn an extra £1.5m from the sale of David Nugent following Middlesbrough's promotion.
Nugent joined Boro in August for an initial £2m fee, but a clause in that deal means Leicester are now due an additional windfall.
Boro were promoted as Sky Bet Championship runners-up on Saturday as a result of their 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Nugent scored eight goals in 40 appearances for Aitor Karanka's side as they returned to the top division after a seven-year absence.
The 31-year-old scored a crucial winner in a 1-0 victory over Hull during the run in and started the promotion decider with Brighton before being replaced by Jordan Rhodes with 10 minutes remaining.
The additional fee is yet another injection of cash for Leicester, who are due to become one of the 20 richest clubs in the world as a result of winning the Premier League.
