Scunthorpe have signed midfielder Sam Mantom on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old will join the Iron on a three-year contract on July 1 after his current deal with Sky Bet League One rivals Walsall expires.

Mantom started his career as a trainee at West Brom before enjoying loan spells at Oldham and Tranmere.

"I'm over the moon," he told Scunthorpe's official website.

"It's been a few weeks in progress and it's something that I'm delighted to get over the line and worked hard for.

"I met up with Graham (Alexander) three or four weeks ago and we just had a general chat and how he wants the future to go with me and his team. Scunthorpe was the perfect fit.

"It was a big season last season. I felt better than ever and I've got to settle in here and get started and I'll be good to go.

"I made over 40 appearances for Walsall last season and scored a few goals as well and it'd be nice to get Scunthorpe into that position. With a manager like Graham Alexander in charge, I don't see any reason why not."
