Matt Phillips, Grant Hanley and James McArthur have pulled out of the Scotland squad ahead of the upcoming double-header against Canada and Slovenia.

The Scottish FA announced on Twitter that the trio had been ruled out and that uncapped Leeds defender Liam Cooper has been called into the squad.

The Scots are taking on Canada in a friendly at Easter Road on Wednesday as a warm-up for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Hampden Park on Sunday. Both matches will be shown live on Sky Sports.

But Crystal Palace midfielder McArthur will miss the international action after he was absent for Saturday's 1-0 win over Watford, while defender Hanley played in Newcastle's goalless draw at Birmingham but will also miss out.

West Brom winger Phillips will be absent too after sitting out Saturday's 3-1 win over Arsenal due to a hamstring strain and his club mate James Morrison is a doubt for the Canada friendly after picking up an ankle injury in training.

Baggies manager Tony Pulis said: "Phillips won't be going away with Scotland.

"Morrison will go. He won't be fit for the first game but there is a chance he could be fit for the second game, which is the big one."

The 25-year-old Cooper was born in Hull but qualifies through his Scottish grandfather and has represented Scotland at U17 and U19 level.
