Graeme Murty has confirmed that Bruno Alves was left on crutches after coming off injured in Rangers' 0-0 draw with Celtic.
Alves' maiden Old Firm appearance lasted just 17 minutes as he hobbled off after landing awkwardly following a Celtic free-kick.
The Euro 2016 winner, who moved to Ibrox last summer, was replaced by man-of-the-match David Bates as the side's played out a stalemate in Glasgow.
Murty confirmed after the game that the 36-year-old was left on crutches and had to wear a protective boot because of the injury.
Asked how Alves was in his post-match press conference, Murty said: "In a lot of pain. He's on crutches at the moment in a boot.
"It is far too soon to assess but he's in a lot of discomfort at the moment. I'm going to go back in and see, but I think it is either his calf or his ankle."
Elsewhere, Murty refused to confirm reports that Falkirk assistant Jimmy Nicholl will be joining him at Ibrox as his No 2.
Nicholl, who had two spells at Rangers as a player, also currently assists Michael O'Neill as part of the Northern Ireland international set-up.
Murty said: "I'm not going to talk about anyone who is employed by another football club. That goes for players or staff, I'm afraid. That's not my place."
