Sheffield United look set to sign Brazilian midfielder Ze Maria after he impressed during a five-day trial last week.
It is reported that the 34-year-old will enter contract talks with Blades boss Bryan Robson as early as Monday afternoon.
The Brazilian is expected to sign a one-year deal with the South Yorkshire club and could be a United player by the time they face Blackpool on Tuesday.
Robson said: "Nothing is certain yet, but it's been good having Ze Maria here."
Inconsistent
Robson has seen his side make an inconsistent start to the season, having won two, lost two and drawn one in the Championship so far.
However the United boss believes they are in a position to push forward and feels he is quickly learning what his team are capable of.
"How they are at Blackpool will tell me even more," he told The Sheffield Star.
"We are doing well at home and now we want to start going away from home."
