Brazilian pulls plug on Blades contract

Bryan Robson has confirmed Brazilian free agent Ze Maria will not be joining Sheffield United, 24 hours after saying the player had signed a deal at the club. On Monday the Blades revealed that a deal had been struck with the midfielder, however Robson has now admitted that the agreement has fallen through. The Blades boss confirmed the news and admitted he will now train his sights elsewhere in his search for fresh players. "Negotiations with Ze and his agent have been ongoing for a few days and it appeared likely that we would reach an agreement," Robson told the club's official website. "But talks have now broken down, the player will not be joining us and I will be focusing my attentions on targets elsewhere." United will now have to do without Ze Maria for their Carling Cup tie with Morecambe on Tuesday, with the Brazilian having been expected to make his debut in that game.
