Oldham striker on sidelines after operation

Oldham striker Lee Hughes is facing a spell of up to three weeks on the sidelines after undergoing a double hernia operation.

Hughes, who joined the club in the summer after his three-year spell in prison, went under the knife on Tuesday to deal with the problem.

"The operation went fine, and Lee's now recovering," manager John Sheridan told the club's official website.

"I'm looking to have him back fit as quickly as possible, and hopefully he can slot back in."

Pearson

Meanwhile, Latics midfielder Michael Pearson made a winning start to his loan spell at Blue Square Premier club Farsley Celtic.

The 19-year-old, who can also play in defence, tied up a move to the Leeds-based side on Tuesday in time to take part in their 3-0 victory over Droylsden later that day.

Farsley boss Lee Sinnott told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "We have monitored Michael for a couple of months now, but he was injured the last time I spoke to Dux (reserve team coach Lee Duxberry) about him.

"He is clear of the problem now and he comes recommended. Being able to fill in a couple of positions as well is beneficial to ourselves."
