Former Brazil international defender Roque Junior has joined Duisburg until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old World Cup winner, who had been without a club after leaving Bayer Leverkusen earlier this year, has been struggling for fitness but has now convinced Duisburg's management that he can play a role in helping them avoid relegation.
"We want to stay in the top flight and have backed this intention with this signing," said Zebras' president Walter Hellmich.
"His footballing qualities and experience will help our team and we have taken a close look at his fitness. He has passed a medical and so there was nothing to prevent us making the signing."
Duisburg travel to bottom club Cottbus for a crucial Bundesliga clash on Friday, but coach Rudi Bommer says Roque Junior will need around three weeks before making his debut.
