Midfielder to train with Championship club

Bryan Robson has given David Thompson the chance to earn a contract at Sheffield United. The midfielder has been without a club since the summer after being released by Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season. He will train with The Blades next week and Robson is hoping the 30-year-old can solve his quest to strengthen his midfield. "David had his knee washed out about five or six weeks ago and has been training at the Liverpool Academy to get fully fit," the Blades boss told the Yorkshire Post.

Aggressive

"I have known him for quite a time and I wouldn't waste his time if I was not interested. "There are a few clubs interested in taking him, but I have asked him to come across and let me have a look at him. "He is in all next week, which is perfect because it is the international week, he is going to train with us and we'll decide what happens from there. "If he proves his fitness, he can fulfil a role where we need strengthening. He's aggressive and he takes care of his passing. He's also said that he would love to come to us."
