Versatile Frenchman swaps Ligue 1 for the Bundesliga

FC Nurnberg have agreed a deal with Nice to bring Jacques Abardonado to the Frankenstadion. The French defender has spent five years with Nice, but will join the Bundesliga club during the January transfer window. Nurnberg currently sit 14th in the German league, just one point above the relegation zone, and have moved to strengthen themselves at the back.

Good character

Coach Hans Meyer told the club's official website: "He is a right-footed player and has also played a holding role in midfield; he mostly plays just in front of the defence. "All his coaches who I have spoken to have been quick to praise his character and his flexibility." No details as to the fee involved have been revealed, although Meyer did comment that Abardonado was "available at a very reasonable price."
