Midfielder reveals desire to play in Britain

Barcelona midfielder Santiago Ezquerro has revealed his desire to play in Britain after being told he can leave the Camp Nou in January. Ezequerro, who joined Barca in 2005 from Athletic Bilbao, has been informed he does not feature in the plans of coach Frank Rijkaard although he still has a year-and-a-half to run on his contract. Barca are believed to want a fee in the region of 1.5million euros (£1.1m) for the 31-year-old but Ezquerro - who is reported to have been offered to Bolton, Celtic and Hearts - is hoping to negotiate a free transfer. Blackburn were rumoured to be close to signing Ezquerro last season and the Spaniard is hopeful he can complete a move to Britain in the New Year transfer window. "To play in England or Scotland has always been an objective for me," Ezquerro told Spanish media. "But during my time at Athletic Bilbao and now in Barcelona it was never possible to reach an agreement."
